Shokz OpenMove Open Ear Headphone Review

I was given a set of Shokz OpenMove by our designated headphone partner of the BTU, Shokz to try. The Shokz OpenMove is the Entry Level headphone on the Shokz line. It’s been voted best in it’s class for a headphone of this price.

What were my thoughts?

I was impressed with the packaging.

The Shokz OpenMove headphones came with their own protective carry bag and easy-to-follow instructions. I quicky found the charging cable and removed the protective rubbe and started charing the Shokz OpenMove with the USB-C charging port I will be able to use my MacPower Book charger as well as the provided USB cable.

It took over an hour to fully charge the Shokz Open, I checked it at about 40 minutes and it was red, 1 hour and 15 minutes and the light had changed to Blue and I was ready to go, keeping in mind that it comes about 50% charged from the factory. It will take 2 hours to be fully charged and have 6 hours of battery life.

The Shokz OpenMove is sweatproof, it holds up against moisture and dirt.

What Bluetooth Tech is it?

Shokz Open Move has BluetoothⓇ 5.1 technology. Which is strong, reliable connectivity up to 33 feet (10m). I had to wait until the device was fully charged before it would connect with my IPhone 13. But once it was charged it connected within seconds and I was off bopping away and feeling the music.

How do they sound?

Shokz OpenMove features it’s patented 7th generation of bone conduction technology delivers superior dynamic stereo sound. Premium Pitch™ 2.0 Stereo Sound. You can feel the music through your ear bones. A premium audio experience every time. 3 EQ Settings Human Voice, Standard, and Earplug Mode for customisable listening. It is a fantastic entry level Bone Conductor Headphone to test, try and love.

Vocal Booster Mode

Crystal-clear sound for Podcasts & audiobooks. The dual noise-cancelling microphones eliminates ambient noise for a stable connection for phone and video calls.

Standard Mode

Outdoor Use.

Multipoint-Pairing Easy Switching

Easily switch connection between a PC and your smartphone.

Bone Conductor Technology Not Noise Cancelling Headphones.

What’s excellent about Shokz products is that they are NOT noise cancelling, meaning you have situational awareness. They feature Shokz proprietary bone conduction technology with an open-ear design that does not block your ear canal. I could hear cars and sirens, my coffee order and people passing me, or talk to people as I passed them. This means they are safer to run with on the roads and trails.

What do I think about the fit?

I have a tiny head, being only 5.2 female, I’m not a big person. Shokz OpenMove stayed on without issue, slamming it downstairs with a ponytail swishing side to side, with a running visor. There was enough area for larger heads, as the fit is universal. I didn’t worry about them at all. I forgot about them being on and just enjoyed the music. They don’t feel as soft or as comfortable as the OpenRun or OpenRun Pro. The Shokz OpenMove has a greater contact area to the skin and is more ridged, but after a while I didn’t notice them whilst out running and dancing along to the music.

Do I reccemmend Shokz?

YES! They have been added to our Safety Briefing as our preferred headphones to use when training and racing on our course because of the situational awareness, making them safer for you than in-ear headphones. If you can hear your competitors around you, trail etiquette is way better; you can still connect with fellow trail-running BTU Buddies.
