BTU20 Golden Trail National Series Powered By Salomon Course Change

Over the past decade, I have been lucky enough to experience the evolution of trail running, from the focus on the longer 100km runs to 100Mi to the 50km, and now, with the introduction of the Golden Trail Series in Australia, the focus being on the 20km distance and the intention to attract the younger trail runners into the highest level of the sport. With the growth of trail running as a sport in Australia, along with the introduction of National and World Series for athletes to compete in, comes an increase in athlete development, faster times, and more competition with skill, speed and endurance. Records are being smashed across the GTNS events as runners race for the ultimate prize to win a Golden Ticket and race the Golden Trail Global Series Final. Therefore, we are expecting a super speedy BTU20 in June.

Brisbane Trail Ultra has always been an athlete-focused event, and it is as agile as a trail runner and evolves as the sport grows and changes. BTU is a platform for all runners in each distance race against the best in each discipline, initially from 30km to 160km. In 2022, we included the 10km and 20km courses as entry-level events. However, we've watched another movement towards the "sprint" events, and now the BTU20 has gained the attention of the best athletes in Australia.

In 2024, we are proud that Brisbane Trail Ultra is the mandatory final for the GTNS Australia; with this comes a great responsibility to showcase the best of Australian athletes and their skills across a comparable course that they will be racing on in Europe when these athletes compete in the Golden Trail World Series Final at a location yet to be announced. After thorough deliberation and close consultation with Salomon Aus/NZ and the local athlete community, we have decided to enhance the BTU20 course. The target vertical gain is to be over 800m for 25km the new course has been verified as 860 elevation gain and 770 loss. This modification is not just a change but a testament to our commitment to mirror the elevation gain and loss that participants will encounter in Europe for the Global Final. It ensures a more challenging and authentic race experience, with more technical trails, more single tracks, BIGGER climbs, and the inclusion of the super steep Wild Earth Kokoda Climb. With this course change, we can confidently select the best possible team of 4 to represent Australia in October 2024.

We have been invited to be guests at the

Wings For Life WORLD RUN

on the 5th of May!

THIS RACE IS UNIQUE

At the Wings for Life World Run, everyone starts at the same time, worldwide. Professional athletes, fun runners and total beginners are all in it together against the Catcher Car. The moving finish line, the Catcher Car begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start, passing runners and wheelchair users one after the other until the race is over. The best bit? 100% of all entry fees and donations goes directly to spinal cord research to find a cure for spinal cord injury.

CATCHER CAR

AGAINST THE CATCHER CAR

The Wings for Life World Run is different. It's not like other races. Everyone across the planet starts their race at exactly the same time: 11:00 am UTC. That means participants in the UK start at 12:00 pm, in Germany at 1:00 pm, in Florida at 7:00 am and so on... There is no finish line. There is a (Virtual) Catcher Car that begins its chase 30 minutes after the start signal. Fun runners, for example, make it to kilometer 5. Professional athletes power on to over 60 km. Do you have a goal in mind? Use the Goal Calculator to figure out the pace you need to set. Your result is NOT how quickly you run, but the distance you cover.

GOAL CALCULATOR

100% OF ALL ENTRY FEES GOES TO SPINAL CORD RESEARCH

The cost is only $19.00 to take part of the action.

The App connects you with the entire field of participants and will inform, entertain, and motivate you during the run. Let the Virtual Catcher Car chase you and immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of the Wings for Life World Run with our Audio Experience.
