If you’d like some inspirational tips about how mentally to get through your first ultra, have a read of Ursula Adam’s BTU110 Race Report. Ursula attended our training camps and was well-known to our BTU Team for her boundless positive energy. When she crossed the finish line in 2nd place for the BTU110 in her first-ever 100+ event, we were ecstatic for her. Even better was she pushed through some mental and physical challenges that most would DNF.

So who’s coming to BTU 2023?

The inaugural BTU100Mi Winner Kieran O’Brien, 2nd BTU100Mi 2020, pictured above at the finish line, paced Vlad Shatrov, winner BTU110 2019, to his win in BTU100MI this year, and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do in 2023.

Will Vlad come back too????

We hope so!

He’s invited, as are all the BTU-2022 Podium winners.

We hope they all come back. What a race it will be.

4th Place and LOS legend Ryan Crawford & 2022 AURA 100Mi Champion Noelis Rheault, Reesha Lewis BTU60 2021 winner, Jess Schluter BTU110 2021 1st place, Ursula Adams, BTU110 2x 1st Place winner Mike Carrol are all on the 2023 starting line up!

And let's not forget about our most consistent podium finishers, BTU regular Carol Robertson and Luke Davidson!

The legendary 135 DownUnder Only Female Finisher Karen Barrett is on the start list.

We can’t wait to see who else will COMMIT over the next few weeks.

For those who missed it last week, we’ve changed the course of ONE EVENT ONLY - Brisbane Trail Ultra 30 - BTU30

What’s the most significant change to the BTU30 course?

We've discovered a way to include MORE of the stunning single trails in The Gap into the BTU30 course. This means BTU30 Runners will be heading off together instead of a staggered start. The course follows Enoggera Creek until Enoggera Reservoir capturing the stunning single track where we get some of the BEST 🤩 photos. From then, you will head straight up South Boundary Rd into the National Park and follow the 2022 ultra courses at the Goanna Trail, where it will connect with the 2023 Brisbane Trail Ultra 60km, 110km & 100Mi.

YES, the ICONIC KOKODA CLIMB 🏃🏽‍♂️⛰🏃🏻‍♀️will be included. YES! We will add excitement to this section of the course by adding a Time Trail (TT) Segment to this climb for the BTU30, BTU60, BTU110, and BTU100Mi runners. Stay tuned for more details.

We are updating the PDF Maps

As an x-elite athlete and now race director (Shona Stephenson), I’ve been around racing since 2007. This was before GPS watches were an essential part of our race kit. It also meant that even when the new technology was available, I didn’t use it for navigation; I relied on the old fashion Map. We’ve noticed that the GPS watches do not pick up “Out and Backs” accurately all the time, and this can be where runners can make a mistake. If I was racing for money or even at all because I didn’t want to run the extra kms, there was no way I would rely on the markers on the course to me all there and direct for the duration of a 30—100-160km event. My experience is that races have course tampering, UTMF (160+), UTA (100+), Coastal Classic (30+), Oxfam (100), Kokoda, and even B100 has had dubious signage at times to no fault of the organisers. I used to print the maps out on a computer myself on a four on an A4 page, with the instructions for that section either at the bottom of the map or the next page. I laminated it and put it on a ring so I could flip it over as I moved through that section of the course.

In light of this, we are reviewing the course maps, so they can be easily printed in four on a 4A sheet as a PDF and can be cut and laminated for those of you who do not know the course and do want to get lost. This was how pedantic I used to be. They will become a souvenir for you to keep 🥰 I put a disco ball key ring on mine 💃 to remind you to have a party out there 🥳
